Sandman Motel
The Sandman Motel in Santa Rosa is conveniently located just blocks from Hwy. 101. It is in the center of Sonoma County, and close to a couple of large malls, several shopping strips (one with Trader Joe’s), and within walking distance to several casual and fast food restaurants. It is within 40 minutes, maximum, of the wineries to the north, south, east, and west, and equidistant to the beaches, valleys, woods, and state parks. The pool, Jacuzzi, and lawn area at the Sandman Motel in Santa Rosa are designed to please family members of all ages, and the price is a bargain for what you get—including a generous continental breakfast. The rooms are a good size, and offer all the basic amenities. The service is quite pleasant, and there is a Carrow’s Restaurant next door.
Inexpensive to moderate: depending on season, room rates are $84.00 - $133.00 (for family room)
WHY I’D STAY HERE: All in all the Sandman Motel in Santa Rosa is a bargain for what you get and centrally located to all the different wine regions. (If you’re here to visit someone at nearby Kaiser Hospital, ask for the hospital rate). Plus, with the pool and lawn area, breakfast, necessities at stores within walking distance, and the location in central Sonoma County, either a couple or family could enjoy the Sandman. (Though it’s not a B&B, for those looking for a romantic getaway.) We were very happy with the pool and surroundings following my daughter’s wedding, when several out-of-town guests stayed here.
DRAWBACKS: Close to freeway, so ask for a room towards the back.
