Cloverdale Citrus Fair Parade
The Cloverdale Citrus Fair
Parade is a wholesome family event with a couple of twists that makes it stand out from the others.
First the wholesome, old-fashioned part...the singing of the National Anthem, a Grand Marshall and a Citrus Fair Queen give the event the typical small town feel. There's no doubt you will get a good feeling just watching these folks go by in the parade: It might remind you of simpler times and simple pleasures. After the parade is over, walk on down to the Cloverdale Citrus Fair
and enjoy all the attractions. The parade and the fair together make for a full day of fun and laughter.
But, for me, the real kicker of the parade is the Humboldt State University Marching Lumberjacks, who come every year. The marching band is over 40 years old and is one of the few student organized and run marching bands left in the United States. The HSU Marching Lumberjacks is modeled after Ivy League marching bands such as the Yale Precision Marching Band (ah, such fond memories from my youth) which feature sophomoric humor and overall crazy college antics. The bottom line here is, it's about fun and the HSU Lumberjacks deliver it in spades. You'll see it in the video. My wife and I have watched the video over and over, and as soon as the Marching Lumberjacks come out, we just roll over laughing. It's great to be young and free spirited. And the HSU Marching Lumberjacks bring out that young, free spirit within all of us. A +
