Perfect Holiday Pies Class at Relish
Pastry chef Shelly Kaldunski shares her baking experience, including a few years as a food editor with Martha Stewart, at this class designed to make you a Pie Baker Extraordinaire, covering methods for perfect crust and a variety of luscious fillings with participants making two types of dough to bake at home.
This class starts with chef Shelly discussing and demonstrating two kinds of pie dough: a French-style all-butter pie dough and an American-style butter-and-shortening dough. Chef Shelly will use her "demo doughs" to make and bake three different pies: a fruit (apple) filling, a custard (pumpkin) filling and a cream (chocolate) filling. Participants will get hands-on as they each make both types of pie dough from scratch to take home—a fantastic jumpstart on holiday pie-making. End the class with tastes of all the freshly baked pies—a side-by-side comparison of the different doughs and fillings.
