Fungo Mungo at Hopmonk Tavern
In S.F. Bay Area music scene of the '90s, Fungo Mungo was one of those rare bands that could play anywhere with anyone, sell out the house, and leave the crowd screaming for more.
After dominating the Bay Area thrash-funk- club scene for years ... with Primus, Mr. Bungle, Delicreeps, and Psychefunkapus as contemporaries ... they eventually gained the attention of the major labels and signed with Chris Blackwell of Island Records. Their debut album, Humongous, was recorded at The Site by producer/engineer Joe Blaney but later mixed by Robert Margouleff and Brant Biles. Released in 1992, it received exceptional media reviews, cult status on college radio stations, and respectable record sales around the globe. But alas, due to management issues, their road to success hit a speed bump. Fungo eventually disbanded in 1996 when their bad-ass bassist, Arion Salazar, was asked to join Third Eye Blind.
In 2009, the hearts of Fungo fans began to beat again. This jump-start came from M.I.R.V. bassist Craig McFarland, who offered to play a few one-off shows with Fungo, beginning in L.A. at the Deftones Benefit for Chi (for Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, who was in a coma following a car accident). Then came two shows to benefit the fight for cancer organized and Promoted by Gary Avila at Slim's.
Now in 2012, an unexpected series of events (a big shout out to Dave Lopez of Flipsyde for his integral part) put Arion Salazar back in touch with his former bandmates. Fungo Mungo is Re'Funked and it's party time at the clubs again!
This is a 21 and over show.
