He is an acoustic guitarist who is widely known for his innovative fingerpicking style, which draws on influences from blues, jazz, and folk music. Focusing primarily on instrumental composition and playing, Kottke also sings sporadically and intersperses humorous and often bizarre monologues from throughout his career.
