Tony Bennett at Wells Fargo Center for the Arts
Tony Bennett will be performing at Wells Fargo Center on December 16th. Tony Bennett is an artist who moves the hearts and touches the souls of audiences. He’s not just the singer’s singer but also an international treasure honored by the United Nations with its Citizen of the World award, which aptly describes the scope of his accomplishments. The son of a grocer and Italian-born immigrant, Anthony Dominick Benedetto sang while waiting tables as a teenager then performed with military bands during World War II. His big break came in 1949 when comedian Bob Hope noticed him working in Greenwich Village. It was Hope who came up with the name Tony Bennett. His classic, “I left my Heart in San Francisco,” is known worldwide. He’s also one of only a handful of artists to have new albums chart in each decade through the new millennium and is recognized for having bridged and even “demolished” the generation gap (The New York Times). On his newest album, “Duets II” out on September 20th he is joined by a celebrated roster of duet guests including Lady Gaga, Michael Buble, Andrea Bocelli, John Mayer and Amy Winehouse.
