Join a Regional Parks ranger on guided hikes at Tolay Lake Regional Park. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Bay Area while learning about this incredible property and its history. The park includes 1,769 acres of grasslands, ridges, a seasonal lake, ponds, wetlands and other natural resources. The park also contains a wealth of cultural and historical resources, with human activity on the property known to span more than 8,000 years. These hikes follow sections of trail with uneven footing and are not for inexperienced hikers; hikers must be in good physical condition.

The outing will start with an optional one-hour orientation for the Tolay Day Use Permit. Orientations are free, and participants will receive a use permit, gate access card, map and park rules. Permit holders can use the park during posted hours for activities such as hiking, biking, picnicking, horseback riding and bird watching. Orientation will take place in a historic barn with an uneven floor and no heat. If you require assistance with access, please contact the park at (707) 565-2041.

Additional Information

It's best to wear layers, including long sleeves and pants.  Wearing sturdy boots is also important for the hike. There are a few items that aren't essential, but they're helpful.  Walking sticks and trekking poles are convenient to have on the hike.  Binoculars are also nice if you plan to look at wildlife as you hike.

This event isn't catered, so it's important to bring enough food and water for your entire party.  Also, there aren't restrooms along the hiking trail.  But there is a restroom at the starting location of the hike.

Parking at Tolay Lake Regional Park is $6 or included with a Regional Parks membership. Additional Tolay hikes and orientations are scheduled throughout the year.

No reservation is required for the hike.
