Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve

Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve gets its name from the abundance of vibrant pink flowers that blossom here every spring. Their proliferation is the natural result of a severe fire that burned down the trees in the area, allowing the sunshine to reach the ground causing the sun-hungry flowers to flourish. Over time, they began to thin as the forest of fir, redwood and tanoak regenerated due to lack of sun. The tanoaks have been culled so that the rhododendrons can continue to delight visitors to this Sonoma County park.
