The long awaited Pinot Noir project of Napa Valley’s Joseph Phelps Vineyards is underway, with a brand new tasting room open in Freestone in West Sonoma County.
In 1999, Phelps planted 80 acres of Pinot Noir and 20 acres of Chardonnay on three separate sites above Freestone in the Sonoma Coast appellation.
The vineyards sit in prized Goldridge soil, considered the best for these Burgundy varietals. The new Phelps tasting room, located just off the Bohemian Highway in Freestone, features all estate grown wines under the Freestone Vineyards and Fogdog labels. Phelps has also reintroduced the ever-popular Ovation Chardonnay, last made in 2004 from Napa Carneros fruit and now from these Sonoma Coast estate vineyards. The Freestone Vineyards tasting room is open 11am till 5pm Friday – Monday.
