Here in Sonoma County spring is definitely in the air. The heavy rains of the first part of the year have yielded to sunshine and temperatures nearing 70 degrees every day, and those circumstances make the grapevines very happy. Over the last few weeks they have awakened, first pushing out sap like a sleepy cat having a morning stretch.
Now the vines are starting to show “bud break,” their spring ritual that begins their long march to harvest in the fall. First the buds begin to bulge, then pop open to expose the vine’s first tiny leaves. In a few months the vines will bloom (one of the grapevine’s few unspectacular acts), set their crop, plump up, and then change colors in their final push towards harvest.
It seems timely that the buds are breaking at the same time that SonomaUncorked.com is launched. This website represents the much anticipated marriage between cutting edge of technology and Wine Country travel, making it easy for both new and seasoned visitors to plan, map, execute and remember their Wine Country travels. Now Wine Country information is at your fingertips.
My part here is to keep visitors in the know about Sonoma County wine and wineries. I’ll be writing weekly about what’s new, what’s happening, and what not to miss, helping you navigate to the best of Sonoma County wine. Cheers!
