Hop Kiln Winery Pictures - Russian River Wineries
Hop Kiln Winery
Hop Kiln Winery is a great treasure in Sonoma County history. Before grapes, Sonoma County's agricultural focus were orchards and hops. This facility is a well-preserved specimen of a hop kiln, where hops were processed for the production of beer. The property is a sprawling 250 acres and home to a broad range of wildlife. Hop Kiln Winery is a historic landmark.
Notables: Besides being a Sonoma County historic landmark, Hop Kiln Winery is making good and ever improving wines. The winery was sold in 2004, and has since made significant investments in their equipment and vineyards. They also brought in new winemaker Erich Bradley to get their wines "to the next level." On Westside Road you'll find many good Gewurztraminers, but this is among the best. The first release of estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under the HK Generations label sold out quickly. Munch your way through samples of locally produced mustards, sauces, and dips in the rustic tasting room. Fascinating photo exhibit of the hop harvest circa 1930's. Lovely shaded picnic grounds. No dogs allowed.
